“There’s no place like home” is a saying that many people may correlate with and in The Wizard of Oz there are many archetypal themes such as the dream of escape, the dream of return and the dual appeal of home and away (Marx’s notes on The Wizard of Oz, VULA, 2008-03-25). When taking a close look at Dorothy and her longing for the escape from Kansas to then the longing for her return, it is palpable to state that the viewers are presented with a contradiction of wants.
