How do accent's affect the interpersonal relationships in a multicultural work force?
Worldwide Telecommunications, Inc is truly a global communications company, with a large multicultural workforce. Many problems arise with a multicultural workforce including language barriers. Many people of differing ethnic backgrounds work for Worldwide Telecommunications. Sometimes the language barriers interfere with the effective communication with in the company. These differences arise due to accents that some of the workforce have, and the fact that no one language is spoken as the primary language within the company. The diverse languages that are spoken help to make Worldwide Telecommunications, Inc. compete in the global market, but at times make interpersonal relationships within the company difficult. People around the world do not think act or speak alike and these differences can cause problems within a work force. Accents can make understanding the spoken words of a coworker difficult. At time the language barriers can affect the interpersonal relationships. When one person has difficulty understanding another's speech, they may look elsewhere for help or assistance, simply avoiding the personal relationship altogether. This avoidance of another places a rift in between to coworkers, which places undue pressure on the team cohesiveness.
Language barriers are just one of the problems that arise in a multicultural workforce. Slang is another problem with in the global multicultural workforce. Words have completely different meanings depending on the part of the world you are in. A simple word like "holiday" in many parts of the world means something completely different in other parts of the world. For instance in the United States, "holiday" represents a day of national celebration, while in may parts of the world "holiday" refers to a vacation....
