The Xerox Corporation was created in 1906 as a manufacturer of photography paper and equipment. Xerox thrived and dominated the document processing market until 1970 when Japanese competition penetrated the market with low cost products. The market responded and by 1978, the Japanese company Canon controlled 25% of the market with its cheap and efficient copiers.
