Rent Control and its Impact on Society
Rent control is one of the most controversial issues facing the American people today. Rent control was put into law by congress in the mid 1940’s. This law was a temporary measure to insure that returning service members had affordable housing in urban communities. Rent control is alive today in 140 cities throughout the U.S. In 1969 congress turned all laws in reference to rent control over to each idividual state. What was supposed to be a temporary law still exists sixty years later. Proponents and opponents are deeply divided over this law.
