Like Water For Chocolate

In the novel “Like Water for Chocolate”, I believe the theme is between love and responsibility. The protagonist is a character named Tita De La Garza. Tita lives with her mother, Mama Elena. Her father died shortly before she was born, so Tita was all Mama Elena had left of him. The servant, Nacha, was like a second mother to Tita. Nacha helps raise her and brings her up learning about food and being in the kitchen.
