Like Water For Chocolate

In the novel “Like Water for Chocolate”, I believe the theme is between love and responsibility. The protagonist is a character named Tita De La Garza. Tita lives with her mother, Mama Elena. Her father died shortly before she was born, so Tita was all Mama Elena had left of him. The servant, Nacha, was like a second mother to Tita. Nacha helps raise her and brings her up learning about food and being in the kitchen.

Once Tita gets a little older, a suitor by the name of Pedro comes along and asks for her hand in marriage. Tita’s mother was not going to allow that since Tita was the youngest in the family and it was a tradition to keep the youngest girl unmarried to take...
