There are many things to consider when designing an electronic commerce system. There are things to consider from the user's side, such as site navigation, as well as things to consider from the seller's side, such as collecting statistical data. However, there are many things to consider that benefit both the seller and the user, such as content and catalog management, event notifications, payment and security. In this report, I will explain these issues in greater detail and give examples of an electronic commerce systems that is successful at dealing with these issues, as well as some that aren't.
