Wachovia
Wachovia is a product of mergers throughout the company’s history. Wachovia originally began in 1879 in North Carolina as a banking institution in the town of Winston under the name Wachovia National Bank. In 1911, Wachovia Loan and Trust merged and later became Wachovia Corporation. Before the most recent merger with A.G. Edwards, Wachovia merged with First Union.
First Union's modest beginnings started in the Buford Hotel in Charlotte, NC by H.M. Victor. He raised funds to found the company by selling 1,000 shares of stock at $100 each. In 1958, Union National merged with First National Bank and Trust Company of Asheville, forming First Union...
