“Gender is the most transparent of all social categories: we acquire gender roles so early in life and so thoroughly that its hard to see them as a result of lessons taught and learned.” (Devor 383). In Devor’s essay, femininity expresses passivity and submission. Women have to have polite speech. Their dress has to represent weakness and dependency. In this particular advertisement, the girl completely challenges your “typical” girl stereotype. She is standing outside in the pouring rain with her hands and legs spread out.
