Rowlandson & Franklin: Responses to their Autobiographies
The writings of Mary Rowlandson and Benjamin Franklin are very telling accounts of society, life and values in the 17th and 18th century. Rowlandson’s work clearly shows the mindset of the Puritans. Upon arriving in North America and carrying out “God’s Errand” they are intercepted by the Indians, a group that they once compared to rocks. On the other hand, Benjamin Franklin is clearly a man who questions his role in society and the society he lives in as a whole.
