Myself

SAUNDIE, a teenage girl, slowly appears from stage right alone. She is wearing a red shirt, dark blue jeans, and a pair of pumps. The clicking sound made by her heels on the hollow floor echo in the shallow theater. A spotlight follows her across the stage and you observe that she has short curly brown hair and big brown eyes. In her hands is a pair of glasses and what looks like an orange with a stem. The audience watches her as she casually walks to center stage. SAUNDIE sits down cross-legged places the "orange" next to her and puts her glasses on. She examines the audience for a little bit,
focuses on the ground, then re-directs her attention back at the audience.)

SAUNDIE: With these special glasses I can see each one of you at a remarkably

personal level. (She lifts up the glasses and places them on her face.) Does anyone happen to have a pair of glasses such as mine? (Scanning the audience she lets out a deep sigh) I was afraid I was going to have to do this. (Instantaneously she jumps off of front stage and finds a member of the audience to hand the glasses to, then immediately jumps back into her original position) Well then, go ahead and borrow mine and tell me what you see. Now don't hesitate to be honest, go ahead and scrutinize me! (There is a moment of pause amongst the audience) Maybe if I stand up and turn around for you, you could see my true self, who I am. (She stands up and kindly turns in a circle.) Alright, now tell me everything you know about me...not much to tell, is there? In all honesty no one really knows or can really tell what kind of person is standing up on this stage. The most that can be derived from who I am is that I like theater and that I like plants. In spite of this, so many assumptions and judgments have already been made about me. (She steps to the edge of the stage, slides off, and casually walks to the audience member in the front row.) Excuse me, but I will be taking my glasses back...
