Power And Politics

Power is an effect of a role status by influencing the behaviors of others politics is used to overcome resistance and involves a conscious effort to organize organizational activity by challenging the opposition in a priority decision situation.
Power gives the individual a sense of control over outcomes; it allows the individual the ability to influence decisions about who gets what resources, what goals are pursued, what actions are taken, who succeeds and who fails. As issues become more complex and outcomes become more uncertain, power becomes a more attractive tool for reducing the uncertainty. Power without concern for ethical obligations seeks only personal fulfillment and has a potential of harming others or the organization.
Dealing with power and politics can be taxing and ineffective to the organization, individual, and/or group when it is used for personal fulfillment, where I personally would review how my ability to contribute to the organizational goals would be hindered versus successfully completed in an attempt to determine initiating employment elsewhere in order for my enrichment to be obtained. When power and politics is utilized effectively there is a low employee turnover rate because a majority of the team members are motivated and influenced to combine their skills and abilities to produce common goals/objectives, which coincides with organizational objectives/goals.
Everyone has power to some degree, where each individual have specific strengths and weaknesses. The key is to review and recognize our own strengths and weaknesses in order to increase our strengths. The power sources that one should attempt to bring to an organization include personal, relationship, position, knowledge, and task power. No matter what power sources an individual takes to an organization, and with the ever changing business environments, a person needs to constantly increase their power sources in order to maintain and...
