Global Communications is a telecommunications company in the extremely competitive market of communications in the 21st century. With ever-changing technology and performance enhanced telecommunication applications, companies in the field must stay ahead of the trends and be able to adapt to a constantly changing market. Global Communications has not been able to do so thus far. They have not acted proactively over the past few years and are now in a situation where immediate and severe action is required to turn the company around. However, their plan, and method of communicating it, has caused them to create and additional issue they must now deal with, as well as oversight of opportunities that could have been considered.
Issue and Opportunity Identification
For three years Global Communications stock value has decreased and is now at "… more than 50 percent depreciation" (Scenario). It has brought in a new CEO, Katrina Heinz, who is aggressively trying to turn the company around. Her plan has turned the company to satellite providers to offer services that compete with cable service providers. It has also put together a plan to outsource many of its local jobs but the workforce is unionized and Global has not negotiated with, or informed the Union of their plan to outsourcing local jobs. Costs can be reduced by nearly 40 percent, which is significant, but Global Communication's local workforce will be drastically reduced, and those whose jobs remain, will be expected to have a salary cut of 10 percent. Global's workforce is represented by the Technologies Workers Union, which was not consulted or informed formally of the planned workforce reduction.
