Global Communications wants to become a leader in the telecommunications industry but has some challenges it faces in this highly competitive industry. In order to remain competitive and continue to grow, the senior team for the company decided to develop new technology for the small business and consumer customers. To do this the decision to outsource jobs was necessary. Unfortunately, the news to cut jobs and reduce salaries domestically was not well received by the Union. This was a result of a lack of communication between the senior team and the Union. In order for this new plan to work, Global Communications must have the support of its Union and employee loyalty. Even with the current state of the Union, Global Communications may achieve the goal that they set forth to do.
Situation Analysis
Issue and Opportunity Identification
In this scenario too much competition in the telecommunications industry left Global Communications under economic pressure to enter the international market. The senior team identified ways to improve profitability and growth by introducing new services to the small business and consumer customers. These customers wanted greater technology so to compete in the local markets Global Communications will set up centers in India and Ireland which will mean cutting jobs and salaries domestically. This decision was communicated through the senior leadership team but the Union was not involved in a decision that would greatly impact them. Because this decision was made without involving the Union the senior team now had angry employees on their hands.
