Running head: RESEARCH AND DECISION MAKING
Research and Decision Making
MBA510 - Week 2 Team Assignment
University of Phoenix
This paper will discuss certain aspects and questions raised from the Managing Research Design simulation in this week's reading assignments. Some questions addressed will include helping Coffee Time determine locations in India to start up the coffee chain, what limitations affect the validity and reliability of data found, and further data needed for the decision of location outlets. Other questions relate to what secondary data is available to Coffee Time and what decision-making strategies the team will recommend, and the constraints placed on Coffee Time in the simulation and how Coffee Time addresses them.
Determining Outlet Locations
Coffee Time needs to conduct considerable research throughout the cities in India, where it might open a new store chain. After accessing the Managing Research Design simulation related to Coffee Time, the main cities that Coffee Time should concentrate data research on are Mumbai, Delhi, Ahmedabad, Bangalore, Chennai, and Pune. Even though the research of the primary and secondary data will be costly, this information will be vital to the decision making of where the new stores will be located.
Secondary research is a fact-finding mission from prior researches and or recorded documents to assist in determining the research objectives for primary research. The primary research is the research being conducted to reach the objectives (Detwiler, 1995). From the data on Coffee Time and India, the researchers chose these cities based on modern cultural outlook and high degree of affluence of the population, which have higher acceptance of premium coffees. Mumbai, Delphi, Bangalore, Chennai, and Pune possess high modern cultural outlook and degree of affluence (Managing Research Design, 2007). Ahmedabad has the potential of buying...
