Ron Paul
Ron Paul, whose campaign was recently propelled by a lively internet buzz and by raising over four million dollars in one day (Roelofs, 2007) is one of the strongest supporters for independence in the nation. As a representative of the House of Representatives, Dr. Paul diligently works for a better constitutional government, less taxation, liberated markets, and better monetary policies. He is known by many for his steady voting record. Dr. Paul has never voted for legislation that wasn’t authorized by the Constitution.
Born and raised in Pennsylvania, Paul graduated from Gettysburg College then went on to complete the Duke University School of Medicine prior to serving proudly as a flight surgeon during his stint in the Air Force. He later moved to a small county in Texas with his wife where his medical practice began. As an obstetrics/gynecologist, he has delivered more than 4,000 babies (Fox, 2008). Dr. Paul now lives in Lake Jackson, Texas with his wife and there five kids. They also have 17 grandchildren.
During his tenor in Congress during the 70’s and 80’s, Ron Paul’s limited government ideals were not the favor in the nation’s capital. Also Paul was one of the few Republican congressmen to support Reagan for president. He served on the House Banking committee and was a tough promoter for sound monetary policy and an opponent of the Federal Reserve’s inflationary procedures. He was also a stanch supporter of pro-family and pro-life values. He constantly chose to lessen or get rid of entirely federal taxes, regulation and spending, and used his seat to vigorously encourage the return of government to its proper constitutional levels. He voluntarily gave up his seat to return to medicine in the early eighties.
